The petitioners cite a judgment given in the year 47 of the present king [Edward III] by which they were charged £200 for the king's tenth on the temporalities of the bishopric of Ely, late in their hands on the death of John Barnet, Bishop of Ely. They suggest that the judgment was in error and request that it be reviewed and overturned by the chancellor, treasurer and justices in the present parliament.

Note
The petition itself mentions the vacancy following the death of Bishop Barnet of Ely (in 1373) and a judgment of 47 [Edward III] (1373-4), and since it indicates that it was presented in parliament it must date to one of the last two parliaments of Edward III, in 1376 and 1377.
