Description

Brothers of the hospital of the maisondieu (God's House) at Dover.

Nature of request
The petitioners request that the collectors of customs at Dover should pay a tent of their profits to the hospital in accordance with the privilege granted them by Henry III, a copy of whose charter they append to the petition.

Coram rege.[A reply is provided on the endorsement to SC 8/108/5372B]

Note
The petition is difficult to date, but the hand, and the use of a French endorsement in the response provided on the dorse of SC 8/108/5372B, suggests that it is unlikely to be before the 1320s, and is assigned notionally to the second quarter of the fourteenth century.
