Nature of request
The petitioners, as heirs of Sir John Chandos, request that it is commanded by letters of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to discharge John Charndos, his heirs and land tenants of the sums that are currently demanded from him, part being from the annual sums from the custody of the castle of Melle, Chize and Civray late of Thomas of Woodstock for which the sheriff of Derbyshire distrains them grievously, and the other for a sum given to Chandos for the Prince in Gascony. They ask that regard is had to Chandos' long service to the king in defence of his inheritance, and that he has expended more than he received for this.
