Description
Petitioners
Prior and Convent of Durham.
Addressees
King and great council.
Nature of request
The prior and convent of Durham request the renewal of letters of Edward I granting them £40 annually from the wool subsidy at Berwick which they surrendered to Edward III in return for a grant that they might appropriate the church of Hemingbrough. They have been prevented by the pope from having the appropriation and ask that the king have regard for the great poverty they suffer as a result of the appropriation of Simonburn church to the king's free chapel of Windsor and the loss of their cell of Coldingham to the Scots.
Nature of endorsement
Let the indentures and other evidences be brought, and the king on advice of his council will deal reasonably with this matter.

Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland]
Simonburn, [Northumberland]
Windsor, [Berkshire]
Durham, [County Durham]
