Nature of request
The petitioners request that a remedy is ordained as much of their sustenance comes from the north on the march of Scotland and is destroyed in the greater part by the Scottish enemy, and they have been ousted by Stewardt from one of their cells called Coldingham and Coldinghamshire in the march of Scotland which is valued at 1,000 marks per annum of which they and their predecessors have been seised as of their church of Durham, and as parcel of the realm of England, and it is occupied by the earl of March in disinheritance of the king and to the destruction of the house. They also request remedy as now at the request of the Scots the pope has installed an unnamed cardinal there.
