Reference
SC 8/106/5277
Date
[c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Liege burgesses of Drogheda.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners ask to be exempt from their fee farm for a number of years for their service at the battle of Dundalk, and because of their great expenses in enclosing and defending the town and because many burgesses and people of the town were killed at Dundalk.
Nature of endorsement
The king grants this in part subvention of the debt of 300 marks.
Places mentioned
Drogheda, [Ireland]
Dundalk, [Co. Louth, Ireland].
Note
Connolly, 'Irish Ancient Petitions', p. 37, dates this to c. 1319 on the basis of CPR 1317-21, p.346; the latter does not grant a remission of the fee farm itself, but rather a release from levies made by the king's ministers on goods in the town.
