Description
Petitioners

Name(s)
de Beaumont, Louis
Addressees

Occupation
Bishop of Durham
Nature of request
The petitioner requests that regard is had to the estate and liberty of Holy Church and order Emeldon to remove his hand from the goods of John de Eure. Sir John de Eure died at Bishop Auckland in the bishopric of Durham where the bishop is ordinary and where he has the right to sequester the goods who reside in the diocese until their wills are proved, but Richard Emeldon, by commissioned of the king to seize lands and goods of the king's enemies, came and seized the goods of Sir John there, contrary to the bishop's rights as ordinary, Eure being killed by people who are unknown and without him being attainted of anything.
Nature of endorsement
Because John de Eure died within the franchise of the bishop of Durham, let the bishop be ordered to make inquiry how he died, and if he was killed, by whom, how and in what manner, and to certify the king in Chancery, and right will be done to him.
