SC 8/105/5245
Date

Description
Petitioners
Janico Dartas, esquire.
Name(s)
Dartas, Janico
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioner asks that Talbot be distrained to pay him the annuities due to him in Ireland that Talbot levied to his own use, claiming that the grant to Talbot was made by false representations. He states that the king's father granted him lifetime annuities by several letters patent and confirmed by the king. He was peacefully seised and paid of the same until Talbot's arrival in Ireland, when the same annuities etc., were taken to his use and the petitioner sued at law to the king's father for recovery of the same. On which the commons in the parliament at Westminster, 16 November 1417, before the duke of Bedford and the lords, charged justices of England to inspect the letters patent, who ordered that writs be sent to Ireland in these matters. The said letters patent were inspected by parliament and by the duke and others, which were found to be sufficient and not suspended, as in the record of the said parliament. And for this it was agreed that the petitioner should receive the said annuities etc., which he was unable to secure by the hindrance of Talbot.
Nature of endorsement
The answer to this petition is as follows:1) The king wishes that a petition made in year five of the king to the same effect as this petition, should be enforced.2) That this petition with answers has been sent to the petitioner under the great seal as an exemplification on the witness of John, Duke of Bedford, 12 July 1421.
