The petitioner seeks pardon on an amount outstanding on a debt to the king, as the king has pardoned all manner of debts to the men of Northumberland for the great destruction that they have suffered, and the franchise of Durham and Norham lies within that county. He shows how he borrowed £233 from the late king to stock Norham Castle upon his release by Middleton, and who also owes for the sowing of certain of his demesne lands when the temporalities were restored to him, although these were later destroyed by the Scots.1)

Coram Rege et magno consilio.2) Because this grace is made to the people of Northumberland the council cannot extend the same to the bishopric of Durham or the people of the bishop's franchise without the king's advice.
