Nature of request
The petitioner seeks through the authority of the present parliament an order that he should be paid 12d per day as from 28 January 1448 for his lifetime after the form of certain letters patent. He states that by the king's letters patent dated 26 May 1447, and in consideration of his service in the king's household in his wars in France, where the petitioner was taken prisoner to the great loss of his goods, in recompense thereof (under the title yeomen usher of the king's hall) he was made one of the king's sergeants-at-arms immediately after the death of John Talbot, taking 12d each day for his lifetime from the farms of London and Middlesex and all manner of profits thereof and all manner of debts and sums of money by the sheriffs of London and Middlesex, levied by the sheriffs as shown in the said letters patent. Talbot died on 28 January 1448, as appears in the exchequer record of the 12d per day he was paid, which payment the petitioner has not yet received.
