Nature of request
The petitioners ask to be sent the help of enough sergeants-at-arms and archers to keep the town of Denbigh, and reward for their long travail. They state that for the past four years they have (at their own request), continued the watch and ward of the town, without any refreshment of men or wages and have often been robbed and burned by the rebels there, and several times they have received the king's letters of signet and privy seal that mention that they ought to be helped, but as yet none comes; and, moreover, if they are not relieved between now and the feast of All Saints, the town will be lost shortly thereafter.
