Nature of request
As executors of the last testament of the late Lord Despenser the petitioners state that he was retained with the late king to serve in Brittany and France with 400 men-at-arms and 400 archers at the king's wages, on which he was assigned in the exchequer by tallies worth £1,700 to receive from the great and petty customs of London, which the petitioners cannot recover unless they discount more than £800 in favour of Street and Lombard, who have already been examined on the matter by Gaunt. The petitioners now ask Gaunt to certify his findings and if necessary examine them again, and that they should recover the £800 and more lost through usury.
