- The petitioners ask for consideration of their great costs and losses endured in times past during the war, and that they should have 40d from every ship entering the port and 12d from every other vessel called loaders, in aid and maintenance of certain engines and other things for saving their ships and vessels and other ships and vessels coming into the port. They state that for the saving of the town, ships, vessels, and of all the ships and vessels coming into their port, the port has been equipped with six guns, ten engines and one chain (which chain is supported by ten cobles), which things cost the petitioners more than £6, after the king's enemies took many ships and other vessels from the people of the town with their merchandise and goods.
