Description
Petitioners
Margery Clement, widow of Geoffrey Clement.
Name(s)
Clement, Margery
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
1) The petitioner seeks a charter of feoffment of certain lands for herself and the heirs of her husband, to hold of the king and his heirs as Mortimer held them. She shows that the king granted by his charter to Roger Mortimer a parcel of land in the commote of Geneu'rglyn, to hold to himself and his heirs for half a knight's fee for all services. Mortimer then sold the same to the petitioner and her husband. Then Llewelyn (Mortimer's son and heir) quitclaimed all rights therein to Geoffrey.2) She seeks payment of £38 that she paid as bail to Moeles by order of William de Valence, and for this money the king despatched a writ to Pedertone, but because he was removed from that office before the writ reached him, he did not do anything in the matter.3) She seeks the king's aid in the matter of delayed estreats and tallies because the bailiffs are so favourable to Scudamore that she cannot obtain a remedy.4) She also asks that the king grant a justiceship to Camville and Pedertone to hear and determine several trespasses that certain persons in Cardiganshire have done to her.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] At the instance of John de Winton (Benstede's clerk), let it be expedited with as much haste as can be conveniently done. [On dorse] 1) Let the persons summoned show the king's charter made to Roger ... and then if he sees whether the charter ought to be confirmed the king will confirm them of his special grace. 2) 2) He may except from the second petition until the end of the war. 3) 3) As to the third; let it be committed to Pedertone that he may hear it and do her justice. 4) 4) Let justice be granted to her.
