Nature of request
The petitioners state that it was established by statute that they should account for the revenues of their offices every second year on pain of a £5 fine, and half of their ... to be applied to the king's household and half ... to them that will sue ... after which the petitioners had no knowledge at the time that they were sued ... vexed by force of the said statute. They ask that in this present parliament it should be ordered that the said statute lately made in Reading only takes effect from 12 November 1455 and not before, and that the petitioners should not be hurt or sued for any forfeiture etc., by force of the first statute for times before the said date, rather that they should be utterly discharged and acquitted of the same.
