The petitioner seeks discharge at the exchequer for himself, William Philip, Thomas Chaucer and others involved in the disposal of jewels belonging to the late king, which are fully accounted for in the rolls and records of account. He states that the said John entered with various men-at-arms and archers and took [jewels] from the bishop, which belonged to the late king, worth £412 9s 4d; four hanapers and two cups ... according to certain indentures made between the late king and the said John as in certain other indentures ... made between the bishop and John. One part remains in the exchequer as of record ... 15 April 1416 at Lambeth by order of the late [king], as in certain indentures made between Philip and Chaucer on one part and the petitioner on the other. The aforesaid hanapers and cups were granted by the petitioner to various lords and other great gentlemen, which were delivered at that time from the late king's treasure of the chamber, as plainly appears ... from the late king at Westminster on 10 March 1421, on the strength of which account the petitioner from the same jewels of the same delivery ... in the court of the exchequer, also from the petitioner, and thus William Philip and Thomas Chaucer ... 15 April, certain jewels of the late king and the four hanapers and two cups etc.
