Nature of request
Copy of a petition made to the king's council at Westminster in the year ten [1316-17] on behalf of the king's council of Gascony. The petitioner asked for all the memoranda and documentation relating to his lands in France to be made available to him there to process his claim to certain lands etc. He states that when the enemy overran the lands the documentation was taken back to England by the keeper of the royal wardrobe. And the petitioner peacefully held his lands in France from the king's predecessors. The petitioner requires his documentation to show to the king's deputy in Gascony.
Nature of endorsement
The original letters are held in the Tower of London and were despatched to England after the aforesaid city and towns surrendered them to the lord king. The city of Agen has been incorporated into the kingdom of France by letters etc., as appears in the process recently despatched.
