Nature of request
The petitioner asks for consideration of two writs he has sued against the prior of Wenlock:1) Copy of a royal writ to the prior ordering him to answer before Grandison (the king's justice in Jersey and Guernsey), on the octave of St Hilary next, concerning certain oppressions made against the petitioner. Dated at Carlisle, 14 September 1297.2) Copy of a royal writ to the prior ordering him not to obstruct the petitioner's provision to the church of St Andrew in Guernsey, which was made in the time of Henry de Cobham. Dated at Carlisle, 14 September 1298.
Nature of endorsement
[Illegible.]
Places mentioned
Guernsey, [Channel Islands]

Wenlock Priory, [Shropshire]
Carlisle, [Cumberland].
People mentioned
Prior of Wenlock
Edward III, King of England

Henry de Cobham, lately Keeper of Jersey and Guernsey.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1298 as the two writs recited in the petition are dates to 14 September 1297, and 14 September 1298 in their dating clauses. It is likely that both are for 1298, and the first dating to 26 Edward I is a scribal error for 27 Edward I as the king was not at Carlisle in September 1297, but he was in 1298.
