Name(s)
de Cheriton (Chirton), William

Nature of request
The petitioner seeks recovery of certain lands and tenements, notwithstanding the treasurer and barons of the exchequer, and maintains that he has long petitioned to have livery of the lands and tenements of Walter (his father), that were seized into the hands of the king's grandfather as fully explained in the said bills and petitions to the council and the exchequer, which recovery was eventually granted on 20 November 1382, through writs issued by chancery under the great seal to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer fully endorsed and certified etc. On the strength of which the said treasurer and barons considered the matter and that the said lands were granted by the king's grandfather by letters patent, and that seisin remained with the king's grandfather and they sent writs of scire facias to the sheriffs of various counties warning the occupiers of the said lands etc., to have certain days before the treasurer informing them that the petitioner has recovery etc., on the strength of which proceedings the petitioner is unable to recover the same.
