Company of the Calais Staple.

Nature of request
The petitioners seek confirmation and enforcement of an order made in the last parliament at Westminster that all petty merchandise be brought to the Calais Staple and to no other port, according to the tenor of the charter of the king's grandfather, to the king's great profit and the increase of the town of Calais. And that Hugh Calveley should remain in his office as captain of Calais for the king's honour and the profit of the entire realm, and for the good protection and governance of the said town and of the merchants and merchandise returning there.
