Nature of request
The petitioner seeks alms for the repair of the bridge at Gloucester and the king's letters patent granting him permission to fell (for the repair of the bridge), the trees on the north side of the bridge up to the vineyard, notwithstanding the claims of the abbot and convent of Gloucester to the north side of the bridge and other persons of the same town to the land there as their common. He shows that by excessive rising of the river and great winds the said bridge is weakened and ruinous and in several places about to be lost forever, and the petitioner has neither grant for maintenance work nor arrears of rent for the repair of the same.
