Nature of request
The petitioners seek inspection and examination of their grievances and speedy remedy in a certain dispute, as they are on the point of disinheritance to the great danger of their house and to the souls of the king and his progenitors who founded their house. They state that they have lately pursued in parliament by bills and complaints many grievances, oppressions and injuries done to them by the officers of the earl of Kent in the marshes and farms of their church in Lincolnshire. The parties were assigned a day before the king's council in St Hilary, and then in the third week of Easter following (lately past), to which day the Abbot appeared in person to his great cost, and none of the earl's council came on either day.
