Nature of request
The petitioners show how for their great ease and profit by various waters ... of various counties of the realm ably carry wool, corn, wines, victuals and many other things which it is needful to transport ... from thence make their profit, and also how various waters also feed rivers, as grown from waters ... issue from ports, which are disturbed with no narrow opening to many valleys in various parts of the [realm] ... for lack of issue of the said waters the carriage of the aforesaid goods is diminished to the very great harm and ruin [of the petitioners]. They ask the king to order his council that if any person constricts any port of the realm ... also such issues to aide passage to the ease and profit of the petitioners ... especially the people of Wiggenhall and Ilsington in Norfolk made to the ruin of the port of Lynn ... damage of the counties of Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire and Suffolk ... and enquire in the various counties, and that any obstruction should be removed until the said enquiries report etc.
