People of Cumberland, Northumberland, and Westmorland.

Nature of request
The petitioners seek refurbishment of the towns and castles of Carlisle, Newcastle, Roxburgh and Berwick, and that adequate constables remain therein. They claim that they are the nearest counties to the Scottish march and their sovereign security is the safe-keeping of the said cities and castles, which are so ruinous and weak that without repair they cannot resist their enemies, as the march-dwellers in this parliament can explain.
