Description
Petitioners
Edmund Cressy and Maud Cressy, his wife.
Name(s)
Cressy; Cressy, Edmund; Maud
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The petitioner asks that Brantingham be brought before the council to answer to the petitioners and revoke his illegal fines etc., such that the petitioners should not be disinherited without an answer. They complain that Brantingham bought from Beverley the keeping of the lands and heir of John de Keynes, namely Wentilane his daughter, and the manors of Dodford, Oxhill, Pool Keynes and Coombe Keynes, who died without heirs of her body about the 22 July, more than one year since. Brantingham then bought from Margaret Wotton her share of the said heritage. Margaret and her sister Maud were the next heirs of John de Keynes, which inheritance is entailed in court of record. Brantingham has pursued his claims before the mayor, bailiffs and other gentlemen of Southampton, and in chancery etc., but Edmund does not wish to sell his wife's rights, nor disinherit their issue.
