The petitioners seek recovery of entailed lands forfeited in the time of King Henry IV. They ask for consideration of statutes appealed in the parliament held at Westminster in the reign of King Edward son of King Henry (more than 140 years since) concerning restrictions on the power to alienate entailed land etc., that an ordinance made by the late King Henry IV be made null and void forever. They state that at the parliament of 1405-6 at Westminster, long after the death of the late Thomas, Lord Bardolph (father of Anne and Joan), among other matters the late king took the forfeiture of the castles, manors, lands, tenements, fees and advowsons of which the late lord inherited by descent or purchase, or other foeffments made to his use etc., which ordinance was extended to all the properties inherited in fee tail, as in those inherited in fee simple, contrary to the intent of the statute of the said parliament.
