The petitioner seeks an order under the privy seal direct to Wakehurst and others (officers of the countess), to deliver to him certain merchandise etc., and if they refuse then they should be brought before the duke and the king's council at the octave of St Hilary now approaching. He states that his ship, loaded with his various goods and those of his friends upon the sea, was driven by storm onto the lands of the countess of Arundel in her lordship of Warenne in Sussex, by which storm and arrival the ship was damaged and broken. Men and merchandise were saved and the petitioner asks the duke for recovery of the said merchandise etc., notwithstanding that those officers of the countess and other men of the land have taken part of the merchandise and goods etc., which the petitioner cannot recover without the duke's assistance.
