Nature of request
1) The petitioner states that he formerly contracted marriage by words with Claromonte, by the free will of her father. Nevertheless, the countess of Foix, by her power (on account of her hostility towards him and Raymund Barnard), blocked the marriage. The petitioner and William de Biern (his bastard brother) appealed to the church, and in the presence of legal delegates from the papal legate [it was] pronounced that the marriage holds and is not to be annulled on pain of excommunication. Nevertheless, the countess still blocks the marriage by her power and hostility, and the petitioner seeks a mandate to the seneschal of Gascony allowing him possession of his wife.2) He also states that the fortress of the lord of Lescuno is held of him in 2500 Morlaix livres, on which he has the power to show good deeds and charters how the aforesaid debt is due. He seeks an order to the seneschal that according to the customs of the land he should have his rights without delay.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let him have an order to the seneschal that all matters be settled according to the law and custom of the land.2) As regards the other, let him have an order to the seneschal to speedily make right according to the custom and usages of the land.
