Nature of request
The petitioners seek repeal and annulment in the present parliament of certain letters patent issued by the late King Richard [II] contrary to law and reason. They state that the Abbot of Westminster held certain lands and tenements in Stokenchurch from Champernoun by homage, fealty, etc., as a parcel of his manor of Aston Rowant. Various tenants hold other lands and tenements from the petitioners in the same vill by homage, fealty, rent, wardship, marriage, relief, estovers, suit of court, etc., granted to the petitioners' ancestors and held since time without memory. The prince had view of frankpledge of all the tenants in the vill and presentment of all articles with fees and profits, and a fair on the waste inside the vill at the feast of SS Peter and Paul each year of the honour of Wallingford, and the tolls and other profits, except pickage and stallage. The Abbot and certain tenants of the petitioners in the aforesaid vill, by conspiracy and evil design imagined between them, enfeoffed Richard, lately king of England, who granted the same lands and tenements of Stokenchurch to the Abbot and his successors forever by letters patent, by which the Abbot was seised of view of frankpledge, articles, fees and goods, and profits of the fair etc., to the disinheritance of the prince and petitioners, as they are without recovery through the common law.
