Nature of request
The petitioner asks that now, in this present parliament, he should be granted the ability to account at the exchequer for certain sums received. He states that the Bishop of London commissioned the Abbot of Waltham, the Prior of Holy Trinity, London, and the petitioner, to levy in the diocese of London certain financial gifts granted to the king by his clergy in the last parliament. Thereafter, the same bishop by another commission appointed the petitioner to levy such sums in the archdeanery of Colchester, on pain of excommunication not to meddle or levy elsewhere. The petitioner was ready to account to the exchequer, but the barons of the exchequer want no account other than that for the entire diocese.
