Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Cerne Abbas.

The King
Occupation
Abbot of Cerne Abbas
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks the king's charter (for a reasonable fine) granting him and his successors the aforesaid hundreds at fee farm forever. He states that his abbey was founded by the king's progenitors and that the tenants residing in these hundreds in greater part belong to the Abbey, because of which they have complaints by various farmers that they cannot make the services due. Upon this [matter] the Abbot brought a petition into parliament asking for the said hundreds, on which Beauchamp and his fellow justices were commissioned to enquire if this would be to the loss of the king or others, if [not] then the king was to grant the petitioner's request, which is proved by the inquest returned into chancery.

Delay until the parliament.
