Description
Petitioners
Ralph de la Chaumbre (Chamber).
Name(s)
Chaumbre (Chamber), Ralph
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks pardon and release from his outlawry, and states that he has offended not by reason of felony, more by reason of contumacy. He shows that Wate brought a writ of trespass against him and others (before Metyngham and his fellow justices) that they beat and badly wounded him against the peace. The petitioner and the others came to court and asserted their innocence. The enquiry came before the justices and it was said that the petitioner and the others were guilty of this trespass. For this the petitioner was in court by attorney when it was decided to take his body, and the sheriff of Berkshire issued a writ of exigent from county to county until the petitioner was outlawed. The petitioner is a poor man, simple and ignorant of the perils of the law, and knew nothing of this exigent.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Thomas de Abburbury prosecuted this injury.[On dorse] 1) Coram Rege. 2) Surrender his person ... and make fine in the presence of the justices ... and pardon the outlawry ... and on this let him have a writ from chancery superseding the outlawry ...
