Nature of request
The petitioners ask for an enquiry into their rights and the recovery of the advowson of Wigtoft Church in Holland, which they bought from the fee of the earl of Richmond. They state with his assent they sued to the king to have permission and his charter for the said purchase and held seisin therein for fourteen years. Then Thomas of Lancaster (who had no lordship in the advowson) by his power wrongfully sued the petitioners and by the menaces of his bailiffs took the advowson.
