Nature of request
John de Crosseby, clerk of Chancery, makes two requests:1) He states that since the King's father recovered the hospital of St Nicholas outside Carlise, which he holds, from the Bishop of Carlisle in the last Eyre of Cumberland, the Bishop has withheld the thraves of corn he should give the hospital for the sustenance of the poor there.2) He states that although the Bishop has no jurisdiction in the hospital, he is seizing the excuse of some tithes that it used to receive from one of the parishes of Carlisle to demand John's obedience, in prejudice to the King, and of his recovery of the hospital; and he is instituting sequestrations and other grievances. He requests a remedy, to maintain the King's right.

Dated on the guard to '? c. 1321'. The petitioner was master of the hospital from 1309 until some time in the reign of Edward II, according to the VCH.
