Description
Petitioners
Henry de Chatherton of Lancashire.
Name(s)
de Chatherton, Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Henry de Chatherton of Lancashire states that when Richard le Molyneins was killed by certain people, an inquest held on the view of the body by Gilbert Norrays, formerly coroner of Lancashire, did not find any evidence against Henry; but that another inquest, held five years later at the procurement of his enemies, indicted him of harbouring people who were present at the murder. His enemies then sued a writ to have him come before King's Bench, and the coroners returned the inquest, saying that it had been held on the view of Richard's body, whereas it had been held five years later. Because of this false indictment he has been charged, and the Sheriff ordered to levy a certain sum from him. He asks the King and council to ordain that his goods might not be taken because of such a false indictment.
