Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Combermere state that they hold their grange of Chesthull in Shropshire of the gift of Richard de Chesthull and the confirmation of Henry III, but that William de Kavynton, Sub-escheator of Shropshire, has forced and distrained them to make fine with him to have respite until Pentecost, although they have shown a warrant allowed according to the form of their tenancy. They request grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Escheator to provide information on why he distrained. And in the meantime he is to cease making distraints.

Note
One of a collection of petitions published on pages 387ff of Rot. Parl., vol I., which are dated to 15 or 16 Edward II (8 July 1321-7 July 1323). Those petitions which can be more securely dated nearly all seem to date from these years.
