Date
[1313-1318]
Description
Petitioners
Philip de Columbers.
Name(s)
de Columbers, Philip
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Philip de Columbers states that the Abbot of Bec-Hellouin has presented to the King one of his monks to be Prior of Goldcliff, which is of the foundation of Philip's ancestors, although no Abbot has ever previously presented to the priory. He requests a remedy for this disinheritance.
Nature of endorsement
Coram magno consilio. He is to show in Chancery the charters which he has for the advowson, and the rolls of Chancery are to be examined; and the Chancellor is to inform the council of what has been found on this matter.
Places mentioned
Goldcliff, [Monmouthshire, Wales]
Bec-Hellouin, [Normandy, France].
People mentioned
The Abbot of Bec-Hellouin.
Note
The Latin summary of a petition on this subject found on the roll of the 1318 parliament (Docs. Illus. English History p. 35) may possibly be this one, but the roll is too badly damaged to be certain, and what can be seen seems to suggest that it is not. Rees, Petitions Relating to Wales p.157 dates this petition to 1313-15.
