[This petition is almost completely illegible.] To the King and council William de Chestrefeld requests . . . King his father as clerk in continual labour . . . of pleas for the use of the King . . . labour is lost . . . attests if their . . . by the testimony of the said W. de Bereford . . . that our lord the King, if he please, might be willing to order that he might have a writ of Chancery . . . . openly to the said W. de Bereford for his clerk . . .. Moreover the said William requests of our lord the King . . . the King in various counties at their own cost . . . of which the Treasurer, by the testimony of the said W. de Bereford . . . that our lord the King, if he please, might be willing to order that they might have a writ to the Treasurer to be . . . according to reason.
Nature of endorsement

Note
The mention of William de Bereford (Justice of the Common Pleas 1292, 1294, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas 1309, died 1326) places this petition in the reign of Edward II. The mention of the King's father might suggest the early years of the reign.
