Nature of request
Hugh de Clyfton states that John de Oxneford, Sheriff of London, arrested him claiming that he had killed and robbed Simon Paternoster; and he and Adam de Salesbirs, sheriff of London, imprisoned him, maltreated him so that he will be maimed for life, and made false accusations against him; and although he was acquitted, they continued to imprison him until he was released by writ of the council. He requests damages, and also the return of his chattels, which were taken with him and are still being held.
