Nature of request
Denise, widow of Alexander de Cheverel, states that she brought a writ of dower against Richard Lovel, demanding a third of the manor of Wynf[ord Eagle, Dorset], but that he has produced a charter of the King, and so the justices will not proceed to judgment without consulting the King. She asks the King [to take] the manor into his hand and to assign her dower to her, or that common justice might be done to her, and she might have a writ to the justices to proceed to judgment.
Nature of endorsement
The justices of the Bench are to be ordered to proceed to do justice in the matter of the dower, notwithstanding the aforesaid charter.

CCR 1313-18 p.244 is dated 6 August 1315. This may come from this stage in the proceedings or later (or possibly earlier) - but the petition would seem to date from around this time.
