Nature of request
John, son of Thomas atte Chirch of Kelling, chaplain, states that Alice, daughter of John Belamy, sued an appeal of rape and of breaking the peace against him in Bedfordshire, of which he was found not guilty, and damages of £200 were awarded to him. Because Alice had nothing from which to raise these damages, he indicted those who had abetted her in her false accusation, and the Sheriff of Bedfordshire was ordered to distrain them for the damages. But they avoided this by alienating their lands to their relatives, in deceit of the King. The statute provided for this makes no allowance for such a situation, so he asks that it might be extended to allow such abettors to be attached by their bodies, or, if they are not found, put in exigent and outlawed.

The matter contained in this petition is to be clarified when the statutes are clarified.
