Nature of request
Simon, Archbishop of Canterbury, states that as a result of the charter that the King granted them in his first parliament, the Barons of the Cinq Ports have accroached and attracted to themselves his tenants in various parts of Kent, to his disinheritance and that of his church, and also to the disinheritance of the King, who has the profits of these tenants in times of vacancy. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the fact that they accroach and attract to themselves by virtue of the charter the tenants who are of the gildable, a writ is to be issued for the King to the Barons of the Cinq Ports, forbidding them to make such accroachments in future and a process is further to take place by attachments.And with regard to the Archbishop, he can distrain his tenants for his services and also sue at common law against the people of the Cinq Ports.

From the reference to the King's first parliament, this petition would seem to date from c. 1328. It must in any case have been submitted before Simon Meopham's death in 1333.
