Nature of request
The abbess and convent request satisfaction of the sum of £672 given them by the countess of Gloucester, their foundress, but confiscated by King Edward I -for which they have letters of obligation. King Edward II, at the request of Gilbert de Clare, gave them letters promising lands to the value of £100 a year until satisfaction was made, but nothing has been done. They request some church of the King's patronage in compensation for this sum.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The treasurer and barons of the exchequer are to be ordered by the great seal to view the letters of Edward I and Edward II and to inform themselves if anything has been paid of the said debt; and for what is in arrears of the said debt, they are to make assignment according to the tenor of Edward II's letter.
