Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/97/4838
Date
[? c. 1335]
Description
Petitioners
John de Crumbewell (Cromwell).
Name(s)
de Crumbewell (Cromwell), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John de Crumbewell states that the inquisition into certain lands, tenements and rents which he has asked to hold from the King in fee simple is returned in Chancery, and asks that he might have the King's charter for these lands, tenements and rents, and also other lands to the full value of 100 marks' worth of land promised to him by Edward II.
Nature of endorsement
This is not a petition of parliament.
Places mentioned
Northumberland
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland].
People mentioned
Edward [II], King of England.
Note
This petition would seem to date from the early part of the reign of Edward III. CPR 1334-8, a grant of the remainder of certain lands held by John de Crumbewell and Thomas de Baumburgh, made at Berwick on 8 October 1335, may well be an indicator of the occasion on which the King, at Berwick, promised him lands to hold in fee simple, as mentioned in the petition. The petition has therefore been tentatively dated to c. 1335.
