Nature of request
William de Coventre states on behalf of the King that certain lands and tenements in Winchelsea and Iham marsh were escheated to the King by bastardy after the death of John de Rakle, who died without an heir of his body, but that Robert Paulyn, Bailiff of Winchelsea, who ought to have seized the tenements for the King's use, procured to have the tenements delivered to Walter, son of Geoffrey de Rakle of Burwash, and then acquired some of them for himself. He requests a suitable remedy for the King's benefit.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] John Jacob of Winchelsea entered after the death of the said John into three acres of land as an escheat.[On dorse] The Escheator or the Keeper of the Cinq Ports is to be ordered to inquire into the contents of the petition and to inform the King.
