Description
Petitioners
Joan Commin (Comyn) of Buchan, sister of William Latimer.
Name(s)
Commin (Comyn), Joan
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Joan Commin of Buchan, sister of William Latimer, makes two requests:1) She states that her brother had granted her the Templars' manor of Faxfleet in compensation for the loss of her lands in Scotland in the war, and she has now understood that the manor is to be taken from her. She asks that, as she has no sustenance from her lands in Scotland, the King might be pleased to grant this manor to her for a term of four or five years, paying its value annually in the Exchequer, with its livestock, so that she would answer for them or their value at the end of the term.2) She also requests some other sustenance, in compensation for the loss of her lands in Scotland.
Nature of endorsement
The lord King has granted to Joan Comyn of Buchan the Templars' manor of Faxfleet, with its appurtenances, in the county of York, to hold at farm at the King's pleasure, paying him annually the legitimate valuation made or to be made at the Exchequer. And the King wishes that the plough animals and all the King's other livestock in the same manor should be delivered to the same Joan for a reasonable price and by an indenture etc., so that she is obliged to restore them, or their price, to the King when that manor is taken out of her hand, or otherwise when it pleases the King, by a good and sufficient security to be found for Alexander de Cave and Robert de Amiotes, keepers of the lands of the Templars in the county of Yorkshire, which security Alexander and Robert are to send without delay to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, informing them of the number of animals and also of their price.
