- Roger de Clifford and Roger de Leyburne state that they entered the manor of Meaburn in Westmorland after the death of Gilbert le Franceys who held of them by service of cornage, but that they were expelled by the King's Steward, who understood that Gilbert held other lands of the King in chief. They ask that if it is found that Gilbert held as they say, they might have their estate back.
- Nature of endorsement
- Because the Steward has attested that that seisin that Roger de Clifford had of the manor of Meaburn was before the King's seisin, so that that seisin is not seisin but occupation against the King, it is agreed that that seisin should be null, as the King ought to have first seisin of everything that is held of him in chief.
