Reference
SC 8/97/4827
Date
[1330-1331]
Description
Petitioners
Abbess of Burnham.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbess of Burnham
Nature of request
The Abbess of Burnham states that the King granted her the manor of Bulstrode with its appurtenances at farm, but that Geoffrey de Bolestrode claimed in Chancery that he had a right to certain lands in that manor. An inquisition found that his claims were false, but he has nevertheless harvested and carried off corn, destroyed woods, and prevented the Abbess from having profit from this manor. The King has had the lands seized into his hands until the matter is determined before the council. She asks that the process might be brought into parliament, and read there, and that it might be ordained that she might hold both these lands and the rest of the manor in peace, paying the farm for it.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Burnham, [Buckinghamshire]
Bulstrode, [Buckinghamshire].
People mentioned
Geoffrey de Bolestrode (Bulstrode).
Note
The petition would seem to date from after 2 March 1330, the date of CCR 1330-3 pp.11-12 - possibly from later in that year, from the reference to the harvesting of corn, or perhaps from 1331, as a writ ordering that Geoffrey de Bulstrode be attached to answer on why he has prevented delivery of these lands (SC 8/95/4739J) is dated 29 September, 5 Edward III (1331). It would seem perhaps to be slightly later than SC 8/97/4828.
