Description

Occupation
scholar of Oxford University
Nature of request
John Brum, scholar at Oxford, states that when he was at the court of Rome pursuing his business, one Amice, Jew of Oxford sued a false appeal against him concerning the christening of a child, and appealed him for robbery from county court to county court, in his absence and without his knowledge, so that he was outlawed, and was thrown into prison on his return to England because of that outlawry. He asks that he might be allowed to be at common law in that matter, as he was when the appeal was made; and that he might have the King's grace, as he hopes the King would find the appeal false.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have letters of pardon for the outlawry. [Two further endorsements, now illegible, follow. Oxford petitions pp.93-94 (no. 5) reads: 'The justices appointed in those parts are to be ordered to do justice to him, because the lord King pardoned . . . outlawry . . . he requests.]
