Description
Petitioners
Prior and Convent of St Augustine of Bordeaux.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The Prior and Convent of St Augustine of Bordeaux make four requests:1) They state that the King's people and the citizens of Bordeaux are levying customs from the wine and corn given to them in alms that they bring to Bordeaux by land and water for their own use. They request a remedy.2) They state that the citizens of Bordeaux took some stone that they had for their monastery, to enclose the town, without any assessment of its value. They ask that it might be assessed by good men and the value paid to them.3) They ask that they might be able to complete their monastery from the alms of good men, for the soul of the late Queen, their founder.4) They ask to be taken into the King's special protection.
Nature of endorsement
To the first petition: the Seneschal is to be ordered to command the Mayor to cease henceforth to demand customs from them for the things that they buy for their lives. With regard to the second, the Seneschal is to be ordered to summon the Mayor of Bordeaux, and to have him make satisfaction to the brothers for the stone that was taken from them, as reason demands. With regard to the letters of protection, a writ of guard and protection is to be given to them, as to others; and for the remainder, they are to let matters rest.
